Urvashi Surana Shaw, daughter of Chandra Surana and granddaughter of Padma Shri awardee Prakash Chandji Surana, is an 8th-generation jewellery designer carrying forward the rich legacy of the Suranas. Her journey into jewellery design began during her college days and even earlier when visiting the family haveli in Jaipur’s Johri Bazaar, where she observed her grandfathers working with artisans and clients.
Urvashi has been designing jewellery since 2012, continuously evolving with current trends. Her designs are inspired by the intricate floral patterns of the haveli walls, architectural marvels, delicate paintings, and natural elements. She holds certifications in both design and marketing, ensuring a well-rounded approach to her craft.
Urvashi enjoys working with hand fabrication and lost-wax casting techniques, allowing her to create unique textures and intricate designs. She has a special affinity for precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum, and loves incorporating gemstones like pearls, opals, and turquoise. Her choice of materials and techniques is driven by the story she wants to tell through each piece of jewellery.
Urvashi has actively participated in prestigious industry events, such as the renowned SAFFRON ART seminar in Mumbai, the East India Jewellery Show’s largest gathering, the RETAIL JEWELLER SHOW. She has also marked her presence at the JITO Show, which had Pan-Indian audience of buyers and consumers, as well as the International Jewellery Show (IJS) in Mumbai. On the global stage, Urvashi has showcased her expertise at the esteemed BASEL show, further solidifying her influence in the world of luxury jewellery.
She has collaborated with many designers. Her latest collection, SURAMYA, has been well-received for its wearable and daily-use designs.
Urvashi is influenced by timeless styles and intricate details that catch the eye. She stays updated with industry trends through online research, social media, industry events, and networking with fellow professionals. She draws fresh ideas from fashion and lifestyle media, celebrity events, and red-carpet appearances.
